How to Memorize Scripture
I received a comment on our Online Bible Studies site from Gwen this week who asked If I had any tips for learning how to memorize scripture. It just so happens that I do.
Hey Steve (Internet Pastor),
How goes it? I am catching up on some missed days here and wanted to ask you what you think the best way to memorize scripture is? I can’t remember anything. Any ideas? love your site. Gwen
Hi Gwen,
The best way I know to memorize bible verses is this…Find a verse that speaks to you, something that you would want to memorize. Write it down on an index card. As you learn the verse always learn the address. For example
John 11:35
Jesus wept.
John 11:35
I always say the address, then the verse, and then the address again. Keep the index card in a place where you can see it every day. Say the verse at least once a day for a week. You should have it down at the end of seven days. Then pick another verse and start the process again, although review the first verse a couple of times during the week. Keep all the index cards so you don;t forget verses. If you do this for a year you will know 52 verses really well by the end of the year. Blessings!
This method has always worked for me. I hope it will be helpful to any of you who wold like to memorize some scripture. Having scripture memorized is a tremendous help in being able to process what life throws at you. I would encourage you to start your own scripture memorization process today.

Pastor Steve,
I have a question. I’d like more information on fasting. An aquiantence of mine read the book Starving Jesus and actually did a 40 day fast. wow..incredible, I’m thinking. I get the concept of denying your self but can you tell me more about the deeper levels and benefits of fasting? Thank you!
Memorizing scripture per your suggestion is working for me. Thank you. Gwen
