In our Online Ministry Bible study today we are continuing our discussion on Understanding the Bible from beginning to end. So far in our study on getting the Bible from beginning to end we have developed the following ideas:

God is the Eternal King. He is an infinite, unchangeable, Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, goodness, justice, power and love.

From all eternity He exists as the One Living and True God in three persons of one substance, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory.

Today we are going to see how things as we know them started out and then in the next couple of weeks we will look at how it fell apart. Since we have already talked about God being the Eternal King, we need to discuss His Kingdom.

God’s Kingdom is everlasting

Psalms 45:6 (NIV)
6 Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

Psalms 145:13 (NIV)
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

Daniel 4:3 (NIV)
3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation.

From His throne – Everything looks different from the throne of the living God. This is one of those things that you need to use your holy imagination about. What is the throne room of the living God like. Read through Revelation chapters 5 and 19 and holy imagine what must be going on. If we can get an idea of life from the perspective of God’s throne, everything will look different.

Psalms 93:1-3 (NIV)
1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

Through His Son, His eternal Word

John 1:1-3 (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

1 Corinthians 8:6 (NIV)
6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Colossians 1:15-16 (NIV)
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

Hebrews 1:1-2 (NIV)
1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

God created – God created everything. When we stop believing in Creation, we begin to lose sight of God for who He really is. If everything is here based on a random chance then nothing really matters. If there is no Creator than there is no real purpose in life.

Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Psalms 95:3-5 (NIV)
3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Upholds – Not only did He create everything. He is still actively involved. There is no better evidence of His active involvement in our lives than the Cross.

Colossians 1:17 (NIV)
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Hebrews 1:3 (NIV)
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Governs – Even though the enemy has set up a counterfeit kingdom here on earth (we will discuss this in a couple of weeks) God is still ultimately in control. Some would ask why He doesn’t just step in and fix everything now? He won’t suspend our free will, our ability to choose, and He is coming to fix everything, but He is patient so that people have a chance to repent and turn to Him before it is too late.

Psalms 103:19 (NIV)
19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

Psalms 104:24-29 (NIV)
24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. 25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number– living things both large and small. 26 There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. 27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. 28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. 29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.

All that exists – God is God of everything. The heavenly places, the angelic hosts, the universe, the earth, every living thing. We will explore this more deeply next week.

Psalms 96:4-6 (NIV)
4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

As we end this week remember this verse – “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise”. Love on Him as He loves on you.

Blessings
